Group RolesTo use your time effectively it is essential that each group member takes upon the responsibility of fulfilling a specific role. The group is similar to an automobile with several moving parts working with one common goal of moving down the road, without any one part the car would break apart and be unable to achieve its goal. Each person (moving part) must be responsible to efficiently work to the best of their capabilities to achieve their particular section so that the group can produce the best skit/video possible! Work with your group to determine who would best fit each position.
Role 1: The Group LeaderThis person is responsible for keeping the group on task as well as organizing a plan of action. They are in touch with each member determining whether or not they are gathering relevant information. They need to be responsible for each task: Cold War Research, War on Terror Research, and Cold Warrior Research If any group member is struggling they will work to help them. Use the group leader guide here to help keep everything organized.
"A Leader's most powerful ally is his or her own example." -John Wooden- Role 2: Cold War Policy ResearchA visual illustration of this project
During the Cold War several people had different policies to deal with the tensions between the U.S.S.R. & the U.S. One school of thought believed in extending peace to diffuse tensions while others believed in escalation in the name of defense. Use the venn diagram to research the numerous policies the U.S. implemented during this tense era.
"We don't propose to sit here in our rocking chair with our hands folded and let the Communists set up any government in the Western Hemisphere" -President Lyndon B. Johnson- Role 3: War on Terror Policy ResearchOn September 11, 2001 the U.S. was attacked by terrorists. The devastation of the twin towers in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington D.C. and thousands of civilian deaths set the U.S. on a path to rid the world of terrorism. Just as the U.S. had done throughout the 50s 60s 70s and 80s they would pursue an enemy across the world in the attempt to maintain and spread freedom around the world. Use the venn diagram to chronicle the official U.S. policies adopted in the hopes of destroying terrorism.
"We will not be intimidated or pushed off the world stage by people who do not like what we stand for, and that is, freedom, democracy and the fight against disease, poverty and terrorism." -Madeleine Albright- Role 4: Cold Warrior ResearchLeading the charge against communism was Winston Churchill who is seen here inspecting a tommy gun. In 1946, Churchill is famously quoted as saying "From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic, an iron curtain has descended across the Continent" in reference to the totalitarian control the U.S.S.R. now had on eastern Europe. In this section your responsibility is to use the Cold Warrior chart to research the individuals that were most influential in shaping the direction of world foreign policy.
