The U.S. Response to TerrorTask: Create a 5-7 minute skit or movie of an interview with “Cold Warriors” that asks whether or not they think this strategy is working based off the way they think and experiences they had during the Cold War.
Terrorism has been around since the dawn of civilization. During the Cold War the major world powers employed these terrorist tactics in small countries in order to score symbolic victories without the use of nuclear total war. Paralleling the Cold War was the struggle for colonial possessions to win their freedom from their ruling mother country. These countries would resort to terrorism as a way of earning their independence. Whatever the ideological conflict, groups began to expand their efforts to destroy whatever ideology they bumped elbows with. Generally speaking the U.S. was able to avoid major terrorist entanglements that plagued Ireland, and the Middle East. This drastically changed after the attacks on September 11, 2001 the U.S. quickly mobilized nearly all military resources toward defeating this timeless destructive ideology. Use these resources to research the U.S.'s strategies to defeat terrorism by completing the War on Terror side of the venn diagram. Then work with your group mate that is researching the Cold War strategy to analyze the similarities and different that these conflicts possess.
